Do you find yourself snacking on some of the weirdest things in your pantry and still feel hungry? Creating a more satiating snack may be more satisfying in the long run, rather than grabbing handfuls of Goldfish. The Hunger Crushing Combo (HCC) is a phrase coined by Abbey Sharp, a registered dietitian, and food and nutrition blogger. You can apply her tips and philosophy to any snack of your liking.
The HCC is an approach to food and snacks that makes it as satiating and satisfying as possible. HCC snacks contain all three Hunger Crushing Compounds: healthy fats, fiber, and protein.
This approach can be used for both sweet and savory snacks. For example, pair yogurt, berries, and nut butter to create a filling parfait, or make a filling piece of toast using bread, avocado, and ham. In addition, enjoy your favorite, but less nutritious snacks with this method to make them more filling. If you love ice cream, you could add a side of frozen fruit and a handful of nuts or pair the ice cream with a different, nutritious snack.
However, it is important to note that sometimes you just don’t have the time to make a full snack or simply having the ice cream is more satisfying for you. If that is the case, do not force yourself to make every snack nutritious.
